The 16 SVT Society was formed to purchase a class 40, eventually settling on 40118.  However, as a group we are now equipped to a high level, owing several rail vehicles and a great deal of mechanical equipment.

Our principle equipment, based at Tyseley is;

Tool & Riding Van - G174W

This is our workshop and mess room facility

The National Railway Museum has provided the following information;

Our vehicle, originally GWR No.174, was authorised as the sole occupant of GWR Wagon Lot 1037 on 13.5.1929 and completed at Swindon on 7.6.1930 at a cost of £2640.

It was specifically built for service at Stafford Rd, Wolverhampton.

It is currently being overhauled using Oak that cost more than the original construction cost.  New photos have been added on 12 June 2007.  These include photos of the new fibreglass window frames that have been manufactured as modern replacements for the old wooden frames.  The decision to change to fibreglass was made following difficulties in obtaining wooden mouldings of the correct type.

Fruit D - W92076W

This is our storage vehicle.

The Fruit D was a vehicle used in passenger and fast freight trains to convey fruit from the Vale of Evesham to London.  It is internally racked with the original GW wooden racking.  It also houses our Air Compressors, and some mains electrical switchgear.
